The Club's History

The Watertown Garden Club was founded in 1967 at which time Mr. Gordon Madge was elected President. The Club was formed with the purposes of encouraging the interest of gardening among amatures; to promote better horticulture practices; to aid in the protection of wild flowers, trees and birds and to encourage planting and beautification of properties.

In order to accomplish our goals and enrich our community, our members activily participate in civic development, conservation, garden therapy and junior gardening as well as offer an annual scholarship to local high school students interested in pursuing a horticultural or environmental program. One of the highlights of every meeting is the report by our Birds Committee, which could include interesting bird sightings, unusual happenings, walks, field trips, bird organizations, houses, feeders and the like.

Meetings

Our Club is always interested in new members and meetings are open to the public. Monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday at Noon (no meetings in January and August), with occasional evening meetings. The meetings are held at the Union Congregational Church, 161 Buckingham Street, in the Oakville section of Watertown. A $5 donation is requested from non-members when attending a Club's monthly presentation. The July and December luncheons are member-only functions.
