8 Town Planters are designed seasonally by WGC members. The 2026 summer planters will utilize native shrubs and herbaceous perennials, some specifically designed to coordinate with the United States Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary). To increase the use of native plants in our community, all the native plants used this summer in planters maintained by the Watertown Garden Club will be given away to participants.
Participants must be local residents of Watertown and Oakville or a current member of the Watertown Garden Club. Planting success depends on variables beyond one's control, but the plants are currently thriving and should be beautiful, healthy specimens for participants to add to their gardens.
The plant selections chosen by the Civic Development Committee in all four locations are listed below with images. Actual photos will follow as the plants mature.
"WGC Plant Giveaway Entry Forms" will require a name, local address and telephone number/email. Forms will be available at Watertown Parks and Recreation (Municipal Center) and Wild Birds Unlimited, 1142 Main Street, Watertown, CT. Please follow instructions printed on entry forms when submitting.
There is no cost to participant. However, just prior to the planting of fall designs in late September, the winners will be required to remove the summer plants and transport them to their final locations.
